Dundee posted two shutouts on the way to a Regional Wrestling title while New Boston Huron and Bedford saw their seasons end

ONSTED — It was a clean sweep for Dundee’s wrestling team.

And a historic day for the Vikings

Dundee won every weight class through two Regional tournament matches to capture their 16th straight Region championship Wednesday night. Dundee defeated Jonesville 81-0 in the Regional semifinals and rolled past host Onsted 80-0 in the finals.

Senior Brandon Whitman set a Dundee school record with his 118th consecutive victory, breaking the record of 117 set by Joe Rendina in 2011.

Leading the Vikings with victories in both matches were Austin Fietz (103), Gabe Massingill (112), Tyler Swiderski (119), Johnny White (125), Stoney Buell (135), Grant Ott (140), McCallister McAvoy (145), Zac Bellaire (152), Tylor Orrison (160), Jaxon Guinn (171), Kyle Motylinski (189), Kyle Reinhart (215), and Whitman (285).

Christian Killion and Dan Jaworski both finished 1-0 at 130 pounds.

Tecumseh stops Huron

DEARBORN HEIGHTS —New Boston Huron fell 32-28 to old nemesis Tecumseh in the finals of the Division 2 Regional at Dearborn Heights Annapolis Wednesday.

The match was not as close as the score indicated. Tecumseh forfeited the final three matches after clinching victory with a win at 160 pounds.

Huron jumped out to an early lead as heavyweight Tyler Short pulled out a 10-6 victory in the first match of the finals.

But the Chiefs had to void 103, then Tecumseh reeled off four straight wins as Vincent Perez won a technical fall at 112, Josh Hilton pinned at 119 and Kellen Patton (125) and Victor Coscarelli (130) won to give the Indians a 22-3 lead.

Cam Arold stopped the bleeding for Huron with a major decision at 140, but a major decision by Kyle Yuhas (140) and a victory by Andrew Winkler (145) pushed the Tecumseh lead to 29-7.

After Nelson Poet won for Huron at 152, Gabe Bechtol clinched a Tecumseh triumph with a victory at 160.

With an insurmountable 32-10 lead, the Indians decided to forfeit the final three weights.

Huron made quick work of Allen Park in the semifinals, cruising to a 71-6 victory.

The Chiefs got pins from Brewer (215), Short (285), David Jividen (112), Owen Zablocki (125), Griffin Cholette (130), Arold (135), Carr (140) and Pauwels (189).

Adam Brenner (152) won by technical fall and Kulas (119) and Trevor Mason (171) won decisions.

The only points for Allen Park came on a Huron void.

Tecumseh, which beat the host team 45-22 in its semifinal, takes a 25-7 record to the state quarterfinals in Kalamazoo on Feb. 23.

Bedford falls in finals

SALINE — Bedford put up a great fight, but fell 41-20 to state-ranked Westland John Glenn in the finals of the Division 1 Regional at Saline.

The Mules avenged a loss from earlier this season by beating Saline 51-30 in the semifinals.

Chase Grzegorczyk (112), Colin Jagielski (171), Hunter Gandee (189), Blake Wingate (215) and Austin Emerson (285) all won twice for Bedford, which finishes with a 24-3 record.

Nine starters will return next season for the Mules and Vogel hopes to find a way to fill the 103-pound weight class. Bedford had a void there all season.
