Township Manager Howard Fink ordered and paid for a study of our water department that showed there is a need for additional funding to support future infrastructure maintenance and repairs to the system.

The board of trustees then choose to raise the water rates to accomplish this. Our water bill went up 60 percent as a result of the increase. Some 4,000 customers north of Lake Macatawa and west of 152nd were subject to this increase also.

The township manager, the township assessor and at least one member of the board of trustees coincidentally live outside the affected area. Then these same officials turn control of the water department over to the Holland Board of Public Works, thereby taking Park Township out of the water utility business that they just raised the rates to support.

The airport vote very similar, tax increase to support it or $256,000 to destroy it. What’s next?
