May Day. The Sentinel reports that our local congressman has concerns about the sustainability of federal spending and that the national debt needs attention.

Has the virus affected his mind? Where was the fiscal responsibility when, as a member of the House Financial Services Committee, he supported the debt-creating 2017 tax plan that has proven to disproportionately benefit major corporations and investors? If he still believes that tax cuts pay for themselves, why not eliminate all taxes in order to grow the economy out of debt (sarcasm)!

History seems to repeat itself. Just as the 2017 tax cuts had unintended consequences such as diverting funds to stock buybacks, there are fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement allegations daily that the three phases of the $2 trillion 2020 COVID-19 CARES Act stimulus package are flawed and lack transparency and enforceable oversight.
