The following is a letter to the editor.

It seems the development of the COVID-19 virus has created its own set of problems.

Parts of our populace are dying. Large numbers of folks are becoming ill to the point that they must be hospitalized for treatment.

One state senator caused an uproar by wearing a Confederate-themed mask at the State Capitol. People are complaining about our governor imposing rules that would hopefully keep the virus in check while our scientific community develops a vaccine that would control or eliminate the virus. Which is more important? Saving lives or getting everyone back to work right now?

The people who were protesting but not wearing masks and keeping the appropriate distance from each other while doing so were playing a dangerous game. We have noticed that young people don’t seem to be serious about the problem and are less likely to wear masks when in public.

Will the masks stop the virus? We don’t know if they will but it’s believed they will help.

Who do we choose to listen to? The politicians or the scientific community? If we choose wrong it might became a death sentence. Be safe.
