An African-American lady who is a state representative from the Detroit area was diagnosed with Covid-19 in April and said on Tucker Carlson’s show that as her disease progressed, it was harder and harder for her to breathe.
Imagine what that would feel like, when you struggle to get air into your lungs. Horrible! Then she saw President Trump on TV talking about an old drug that seemed to be helping some Covid patients called hydrocholorquin. At this point she was getting desperate for some help so she asked her doctor if he would get it for her. After taking this drug, she very quickly began to feel better. Isn’t that marvelous? I was delighted when I heard this. I have a friend who has recovered from Covid but still struggles to breathe on her own. Needless to say, she is in my prayers night and day.
So this lady contacted the president to thank him for helping to save her life. But she just happens to be a Democrat state representative. Evidently the president invited her to come visit him and Vice-President Pence at the White House.
And this dear lady has now incurred the wrath of the Democrat party! Instead of rejoicing that she survived, they are talking about censuring her, possibly even putting her out of her own party affiliation. Where is the sympathy and concern for a woman who knew she was dying and is now gloriously alive? I am not a Democrat, but I was so GLAD to hear she was able to dodge the bullet and live. She said even our governor has been sending her ‘not so nice’ texts since her crossing the aisle to convey her gratitude to President Trump. And that, folks, is a sad state of affairs when you cannot thank someone without being trampled on.
We are all humans first - then Americans - and our party affiliation should come in a distant third in all this pain, suffering, isolation and the deaths of about 3% of those who contract this virus. Does the Michigan Democratic party have no heart at all? I don’t get into political debates, but this reaction goes beyond nasty.
The hatred expressed in this country by those who don’t agree with your right to vote for whomever you choose is debilitating for the whole country. Hatred is equal to murder in the Bible. We are told by Paul in Ephesians 4:26: “Do not let the sun go down on your anger.” It is okay to get angry about things, but you should not go to bed still upset. It is simply not good for us to brood about things over which we have no control. Hatred shrivels the soul.
In Jesus’ time, the very religious Pharisees, who were regarded by the populace as fine Godly men were, in fact, all outward pomp and show. Jesus Christ told them they were like white-washed mausoleums: beautiful on the outside, but inside full of corruption and dead men’s bones. They hated Jesus with a passion since the people were flocking to Him, being healed of diseases and fed miraculously, while they were powerless to stop Him. They had just one thing in mind - get rid of Him at any cost. And they accomplished their purpose, only to have Him rise again from the dead, alive forevermore.
Life is too short for hatred of others. We need each other, Democrat as well as Republican or Independent. Let’s cool down, and work together for the good of our hurting neighbors and our dear nation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.
