PORTLAND — The city of Portland is working to honor the graduating seniors of its two high schools.

Portland has been collaborating with Portland High School and St. Patrick Catholic School to honor the class of 2020 graduates, City Manager Tutt Gorman said in a Facebook post on Monday, June 1.

The city is working with the schools, Director of Public Services, city staff and RCP Artist Services and is planning to raise a 55-foot banner on the pedestrian walking bridge near Water Street in the near future. Other ideas are also being explored, Gorman said.

Portland is also working with a group to facilitate a “senior parade” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 4. Gorman said further information on the event to honor the class of 2020 will be forthcoming.

“Our seniors have lost opportunities and moments that would have been lifelong memories,” Gorman said. “This is the least we can do to show our support and honor their accomplishment. Congratulations, seniors. The entire community is behind you.”

More information will be posted on the City of Portland, Michigan Facebook page.
