White Pigeon Central Elementary held “Desk Cleanout” Monday, inviting the school’s parents and guardians to collect students’ belongings that were left in the classroom when the school year was interrupted unexpectedly due to COVID-19.

Library books and final packets were collected and yearbooks distributed.

Principal Shelly McBride said a lot of parents attended and numerous items were turned in.

“A lot of parents were just saying thank you … they are excited for fall and want to know what’s going to happen,” she said. “It’s been really positive.”

McBride said it was enjoyable to have people back in the building, saying “it feels more alive.” She said students have been missed.

Staff members and visitors wore masks and observed social distancing.
