SAULT STE. MARIE — Sault resident Bruce Burling has been found after a month of searching.


According to the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department, since Burling’s reported disappearance on April 12, several agencies conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area, including St. Mary’s River and the Cloverland Electric power canal and facility. The search utilized K-9 units, drones, underwater cameras and dive teams provided by the Michigan State Police, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and the Sault Tribe Police Department.


Burling, a 64-year-old male, was located deceased in the morning hours of Friday, May 8 inside one of the over 70 Cloverland Electric turbines fed by the power canal. After working with the medical examiner’s office as well as with other evidence, Burling’s death has been ruled a suicide. His remains were recovered and turned over to a local funeral home.
