Monroe County had one of its biggest daily spikes in new COVID-19 coronavirus cases Wednesday, with 27 additional cases confirmed.

In addition, one more local death has been attributed to COVID-19; bringing that total to 15.

Those reports were was among the data provided when the Monroe County Health Department and State of Monroe provided their latest reports on the pandemic Monday afternoon.

The first case in Monroe County was reported March 14, the first one in State of Michigan was reported March 10.

The local deaths are for 10 males and five females. They range in age from 46 to 97; the average age is 79.

The State of Michigan updates Wednesday show that there are now 45,054 cases to date, with the City of Detroit along with Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties the hardest-hit areas. There have also been 4,250 deaths in Michigan attributed to COVID-19.

The "recovery" data is provided about once a week by the state and county. The most recent data from Monroe County, which was calculated earlier in the week, is as follows:

Number of patients who have recovered (defined as discontinued from isolation and improvement in symptoms): 206. Number of patients who are stable and continue to be monitored at home: 123. Number of patients who are currently hospitalized and monitored: 11 Number of deaths: 14.

In addition, the updated age brackets for the Monroe County cases are as follows:

Age 19 and younger: 9 cases. Age 20-29: 35 cases. Age 30-39: 52 cases. Age 40-49: 68 cases. Age 50-59: 86 cases. Age 60-69: 53 cases. Age 70 and older: 50 cases.
