CHEBOYGAN COUNTY — The Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District ballot proposal that three Cheboygan County townships voted on Tuesday passed by a vote of 5,095 to 2,696 throughout the ISD’s areas in Cheboygan, Charlevoix and Emmet counties.

These numbers are from the unofficial results of the election from the Emmet County Clerk's Office. The Char-Em ISD services part of Cheboygan County, and a portion of Antrim County also voted on this millage proposal.

"There is an election for a Char-Em ISD millage proposal at the Burt Township Hall," said Cheboygan County Clerk Karen Brewster. "Which includes all of Burt Township, part of Hebron Township and part of Munro Township registered voters."

The millage proposal asked voters to decide on a 1.4958 four-year millage for the ISD. This funding would generate around $8.7 million needed for special education operating expenses in the first year of the millage.

This millage proposal was a renewal of the 1.1499 millage that had been in place with the ISD, along with a restoration of the just over 0.34 mills that had been rolled back previously with the Headlee Amendment.

According to the unofficial election summary from the Emmet County Clerk's Office, there was a total number of 241 ballots cast in the townships in Cheboygan County that voted during the election. This is of the 845 total number of registered voters who could cast their vote on the millage proposal. This showed a voter turnout of 28.52 percent.

Of the votes cast, there were 149 votes to approve the renewal of the millage and 92 votes against the passing of the renewal.
