Demario Shelton, 32, of Three Rivers, was sentenced Friday to a minimum 53 months to 40 years prison for the November 2019 robbery of Three Rivers branch of Century Bank and Trust.

Shelton was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Paul Stutesman after pleading guilty to bank robbery.

On Nov. 18, 2019, police were dispatched in response to a hold-up alarm at the bank, at 1310 W. Broadway St. A man had handed a teller a note demanding money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the male fled on foot. A K-9 led police to a strip mall to the north, but the scent was lost.

A surveillance photograph was posted by police on social media and shared by community members, who identified Shelton, who was on parole at the time of incident.

Shelton had been paroled to St. Joseph County in April 2019. He was serving 40 months to 20 years for convictions from Macomb County for two 2007 home invasions and two 2008 unarmed robberies.

The St. Joseph County sentence will be served consecutively the remainder of the previous prison terms.
