Five new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus were reported to Monroe County residents Tuesday, bringing the total to 326.

Five new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus were reported to Monroe County residents Tuesday, bringing the total to 326.

That was among the data provided when the Monroe County Health Department and State of Monroe provided their latest reports on the pandemic Monday afternoon.

In the meantime, the number of Monroe County deaths attributed to COVID-19 remains at 14; 10 males and four females. They range in age from 46 to 97; the average age is 78.

The first case in Monroe County was reported March 14, the first one in State of Michigan was reported March 10.

The State of Michigan updates Tuesday show that there are now 44,397 cases to date, with the City of Detroit along with Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties the hardest-hit areas.

There have also been 4,179 deaths in Michigan attributed to COVID-19. That number includes 8 deaths added Tuesday in the state's most recent comparison of Vital Records to testing data; a matching process that takes place 3 times a week.

The State of Michigan's recovery data is updated once a week; the most recent update was Friday.

The Monroe County Health Department issued its latest recovery data late Tuesday afternoon via press release, in addition to what is on the county's website. 

The news release says that of the 326 cases locally, there are 15 who are considered "probable" defined as those who have not been laboratory tested as conformed; but have symptoms and "a specific exposure condition" that fits federal and state guidelines.

"The expanded reporting, to include “probable” COVID-19 cases, is intended to provide data that may more accurately characterize the COVID-19 outbreak within our community," the health department said.

In addition, the local cases are as follows:

Number of patients who have recovered (defined as discontinued from isolation and improvement in symptoms): 206. Number of patients who are stable and continue to be monitored at home: 123. Number of patients who are currently hospitalized and monitored: 11 Number of deaths: 14.

Tuesday's breakdown of cases per ZIP code in Monroe County is as follows:

48162 (Monroe north): 73 cases. 48161 (Monroe south): 51 cases. 48166 (Newport): 46 cases. 48182 (Temperance): 40 cases. 48117 (Carleton): 31 cases. 48144 (Lambertville): 16 cases. 48160 (Milan): 14 cases. 48131 (Dundee): 11 cases. 48159 (Maybee): 9 cases. 48145 (LaSalle): 7 cases. 49267 (Ottawa Lake): 6 cases. 48133 (Erie): 5 cases. 49270 (Petersburg): 5 cases. 48179 (South Rockwood): 4 cases. 48140 (Ida): 2 case. 49238 (Deerfield): 1 case. 48157 (Luna Pier): 1 case.

In addition, the updated age brackets for the Monroe County cases are as follows:

Age 19 and younger: 8 cases. Age 20-29: 31 cases. Age 30-39: 51 cases. Age 40-49: 66 cases. Age 50-59: 72 cases. Age 60-69: 49 cases. Age 70 and older: 49 cases.
