The Philbeck Foundation has announced it awarded Whiteford Agricultural School District with $3,000 for the purchase of books for use in distance learning.

This gift was presented as part of the Foundation’s response to Covid-19 and will support the purchase of texts for K-8 students. This will allow students to interact with teachers and each other through book clubs, using technology to connect with each other during the remainder of the school year.

“We saw an opportunity in our community to support our educators who are being asked to do more than ever before, and we wanted to do something outside of the timing of our normal grant cycles to help ease their burden,” said Dory Philbeck, president of the Philbeck Foundation Board of Directors. “Ensuring that all students in the Whiteford Agricultural School District have the opportunity to take part in this online book club is one way that we can continue to live our mission in Monroe County, at a time when we are needed most.”

Since 2018, the Philbeck Foundation has supported countless Monroe County organizations and provided over $76,000 in assistance to the community. The grant awards are normally made twice a year; aimed at Monroe County organizations whose primary services benefit children in the community.
