CHEBOYGAN COUNTY — Cheboygan County is now acting as a distribution center for personal protective equipment for five other local counties, set up through the Cheboygan County Sheriff's Department Office of Emergency Management.

Cheboygan County Sheriff Dale Clarmont said the Cheboygan County Office of Emergency Management has organized the PPE distribution center in Cheboygan, in cooperation with the State of Michigan Emergency Operations Center, and is now serving five counties to get the needed PPE supplies out.

“Because of the supply chain on the federal and state level and private companies, we are receiving thousands of PPE supplies including hand sanitizer, isolation gowns and surgical masks, which greatly assist in fulfilling the needs of those on the front lines and first responders,” said Clarmont.

Clarmont said, currently, they are able to provide 30 day supplies of personal protection equipment and soon will be submitting to the State Office of Emergency Management for 60 days of supplies as the stock pile grows.

“Cheboygan County Emergency Manager Sgt. Patrick Holt continues to monitor the inventory to ensure we maintain a sustainable level,” said Clarmont.

From April 26-30, the local office of emergency management received another 100,000 personal protection equipment items to give out to those who need them.

“The logistic coordination from the state level through distribution of PPE supplies is an immense undertaking and I want to thank Cheboygan County Firefighters Association President Keith Ginop for his dedication in volunteering his time over the past two weeks in assisting us in that task,” said Clarmont.

Sheriff Clarmont said Cheboygan County Office of Emergency Management is also assisting Alcona Health Center with their COVID-19 drive-through test site at the Cheboygan County fairgrounds.

“Alcona has stepped up and started testing those that meet the criteria through a referral from their doctor,” said Clarmont.

The sheriff also thanked District Health Department Four, the Cheboygan County Firefighters Association members, the Cheboygan Department of Public Safety and Cheboygan County Life Support Systems for their assistance at the test site.

“It takes coordination and cooperation within the county and I want to thank all of those for stepping up and caring for the citizens of Cheboygan County,” said Clarmont.
