The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency is asking for community members to submit short videos and letters to cheer up Michigan veterans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The agency recently launched its "Make A Vet Smile" campaign to lift veterans' spirits during such a trying time. Residents of Michigan Veteran Homes, which offer psychiatric, diagnostic and other medical services to former service members, are receiving these heartfelt messages as many of them are unable to have visitors.

Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency Director Zaneta Adams sang a rendition of "God Bless America" in a video posted to the agency’s Facebook page to kick off the campaign.

“The campaign is off to a great start and the members of our Homes are enjoying the show of support from Michigan residents," said Anne Zerbe, director of Michigan Veterans Home.

Within the first 10 days of the Make A Vet Smile campaign, more than 200 cards, letters, photos and videos were submitted in support of Michigan veterans.
