Special activities and events are planned in conjunction with a national campaign encouraging shoppers to include small businesses in their holiday plans.
Once shoppers are done cruising aisles of the big stores, they’re invited to head to one of the Monroe County area’s downtowns for Small Business Saturday.
Special events are planned for the shopping day intended to celebrate and heighten awareness of the small shops owned and operated by local residents.
Besides the special deals at the stores, here’s a look at what else is planned Saturday.
CITY OF MONROE
The Downtown Monroe Business Network is welcoming visitors from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Free carriage rides will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting at Amaya’s Fresh Mexican Grill, 29 S. Monroe St.

Monroe County’s Habitat for Humanity ReStore also is offering deals.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the store at 840 LaPlaisance Rd. will offer discounts on everything from furniture to the kitchen sink.
Shoppers will have to take the items they buy at the time of purchase and help load them into their vehicles.
VILLAGE OF DUNDEE
Shoppers will have a chance to win prizes by shopping in Dundee Saturday.
They can get their passports stamped at participating businesses to qualify for drawings.
They’ll also receive free tote bags with goods and coupons from businesses.

The passports are good through Dec. 14, when the winners will be drawn.
They’ll be announced Dec. 17 at the city council meeting.
Passports are available at the city hall.
