Today in history

In 2011: The Ottawa County Health Department contracted with a fledgling Vermontville company to use trained canines to investigate streams and stormwater drainage systems in the Lake Macatawa area in an attempt to identify sources of recurring water contamination woes at Dunton Park in Holland Township. Dunton Park was closed four times last year and twice this year — for a total of 191 days — each time for high bacteria levels in the water. Except in one instance, the cause of high bacteria levels was unknown.
